The items that we obtain from 88 Recycling Kiosk are first inspected before we decide whether to resell them or send them as part of our Humanitarian Relief Program to impoverished countries overseas. Our current packing and sorting volunteers have been putting in their best effort, but due to the sheer volume of the recycled items, our volunteers have been overwhelmed by the workload. We are in dire need of volunteers to help us streamline the packing and sorting process and make it more efficient. As a volunteer, you will be in charge of sorting the items from our 88 Recycling Kiosk, which includes choosing the reusable items that can be sold in our jumble sales or become part of our Humanitarian Aid overseas.
At our 88 Recycling Kiosk, electrical equipment is donated to charitable organizations or resold to raise money for environmental projects in the Monastery. Before they can be sold, they need to be tested to ensure they comply with safety requirements. As a PA (Portable Appliance) Tester, you will undergo a one day training course to learn how to test electrical equipment that will go for sale. At the end of the course, you will graduate with a formal qualification. You will then test electrical equipment that will be sold at the Jumble Sales and get involved in the various fun and challenging activities in our electrical warehouse. ( Pls note: volunteers need to be at least 16 years of age and have a competent level of literacy.)
Since June 2005, 88 Recycling has been organizing Jumble Sales selling items that devotees dropped off at our Recycling Kiosk. Two years down the road, awareness of these sales has spread and the sales themselves have achieved phenomenal success. To ensure the continued success of the jumble sales, it is imperative that we find more volunteers to join our dedicated team of retail sales volunteers. Be a part of a team of volunteers that save perfectly useful items from being condemned to a cruel fate as rubbish in a landfill site! You, together with your teammates, will be in charge of the entire process from saving a recyclable item from the rubbish bin to getting it into the hands of a new owner. All proceeds goes to Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery.
The administrative and marketing volunteers are the brains behind 88 Recycling’s environmental protection efforts. You will lead the other volunteers and ensure that everything runs smoothly. Furthermore, as part of Environmental Education, you will be in charge of 88 Recycling’s environmental education campaigns, which include spreading awareness about recycling amongst the public, creating pamphlets and leaflets to as educational materials and organizing volunteer recruitment drives.
