WISE and COMPASSIONATE ACTIONS
How YOU can do your part to protect wildlife and conserve nature areas
Suggestions by Nature Society (Singapore) 2004

Do not buy wild animals to keep, to eat, or to release. When we buy wild animals, we are directly telling the shop-owner to catch more animals from nature areas to sell. For example, many wild birds are captured for sale as caged birds in our shops.

Do not buy ¡°medicines¡± made from wildlife. For example, tiger penis, dried seahorse, bear gall, rhinocerous horn, antelope horn, sea turtle meat, scaly anteater scales, dried gecko, etc. Use animal-friendly herbal remedies instead.

Do not buy products made from wildlife. For example, jewelry made from sea turtle shell, elephant ivory ornaments, or the skins of wild animals.

Many animal or pet shops keep animals in extremely cruel conditions. Stop animal cruelty, do not patronise shops which mistreat the animals on sale.

Do not destroy or collect wild plants as these are homes and food to wild animals.

Rescue and care for animals when needed. It can be a baby bird which has dropped out of its nest or a turtle found in the middle of a road; an injured animal or fishes trapped in a drying pond.

Make others aware about the importance of conserving nature and protecting our environment. Enlighten them on why we should not buy wildlife to keep as pets, for consumption or to release.

Join an animal welfare group to help protect and improve conditions for all animals.

Join a green group to protect our nature areas. These are homes to countless animals.

Report the poaching of wildlife to the police, or to the National Parks Board at Tel: 64629203

Grow native plants and trees. This will benefit wildlife as well as improve the health of our environment.
