Qie Lan (Sangharama) Bodhisattva's historical legend can be read in details in the famous novel "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms". In the recorded history of his life as Guan Yu (Guan Gong), he displayed his nobility, uprightness, integrity, loyalty and bravery at a time of great distress and chaos of the Han Dynasty, 202 B.C.

He is widely regarded as the Guardian Bodhisattva of the Brave, Loyal and Righteous.
