NEWS
TIME
Entering this information era, children are exposed to all kinds
of information at the click of a mouse. In this programme, exposing
children to appreciate and understand current affairs at a young
age could help them better understand the world around them. With
proper guidance they would also learn to differential relevant
information for their growing intellectual needs. Ultimately,
children will have the ability to present their knowledge confidently.
This is a key factor for a successful adulthood.
MIND & BODY
Positive Mental Health is extremely important for the well being
of a "whole" human. Unfortunately, it is the most commonly
neglected area, as stress in daily affairs has caused us to constantly
be living in fear and anxiety. Prolonged exposure to such circumstances
not only will cause emotional upset, it will have detrimental
effect for both body and mind. Therefore, the objective of this
unique programme is to train children to have the ability to keep
their mind at peace with the world they live in. Another feature
of this meditation and mindfulness practice is that there is no
religious connotation.
STUDY
PERIOD / TUTORIAL
Being able to concentrate and understand schoolwork and assignment
is extremely important in order to be able to excel academically.
With physical conducive environment and strict supervision by
trained staff, students are able to spend quality time in their
schoolwork and accomplish more within a period of time. In addition,
there will be Tutors around to give individual attention to help
students improve their weaker subjects.
VEGETARIAN MEAL
In order to
help children develop a strong sense of responsibility to the
environment and cultivating love to themselves and others, our
centre strictly advocate the idea of providing nutritious vegetarian
meal to the children. Modern day farming has caused great catastrophe
to both the environment and animals on earth. In addition, Medicine
of the 21st century have shown substantial evidence that a lot
of sickness are closely related to our way of diet. Thus, we believe
by providing children with a proper nutritious diet, they will
eventually become healthier and responsible adult of the future.

An analogy given
by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong when he opened the 2nd Asia Pacific
Economic Cooperation (APEC) Education Ministerial Meeting in April
2000, education is like teaching one to fish.
"In
the long term, we ought to be able to fish in different waters
and all seasons, and constantly developing new techniques to increase
our catch," PM Goh said.
We
believe in building this analogy further by providing enrichment
programmes to help shape a holistic form of modern-day education.
We could be expecting a more responsible and humane "fisherman".
This unique program has been developed by TLC Student Care Centre
to specially cater for its students - shaping students with a difference.
GUIDED
READING
Introduction
Guided
reading is the heart of a reading program. It gives teachers and
students the opportunity to talk, read and think their way purposefully
through a text. It provides the perfect instructional setting
for teaching and reinforcing essential skills and assessing reading
behaviour.
SELF-ESTEEM
Introduction
Self-Esteem is appreciating my own worth and importance and having
the character to be accountable for myself and to act responsibly
towards others. Self-Esteem is about gentle confidence. A person
with high self-esteem is aware of his/her own strength and weaknesses.
Research
has shown a strong link between a child's self-esteem and his
/ her academic success; children who feel good about themselves
learn more easily and retain information longer. In fact, they
do better in every way: if they have a sense of well-being they
are much more likely to be able to handle the ups and downs of
daily life, including prejudice, abuse, addiction, delinquency
and violence.
POSITIVE
HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS
We
live in a social world, not an island by ourselves. The relationships
we create and maintain with others should be viewed as treasures.
By using good human relations principals and strategies, we learn
to manage our social and school relationships effectively. This
is important for our personal growth and future advancement.

Enrichment Programs |

Parents
as role model and life long mentor to their children can never be
replaced by schools or any form of educational institution. We intend
to help parents to equip themselves with the relevant skills to
bring up their children positively, hence a wide range and variety
of enrichment activities for parents have been planned to reach
this objective.
Parent
Workshop
We have been working closely with various Volunteer Welfare Organisations
in the field of counselling and parental education. The main objective
of having such workshops is to guide parents toward positive parenting
and interaction.
Adult
Self-Esteem
Problems between adults can sometimes affect children adversely.
Unfortunately, most problems we are not in a position to solve
but as long as it is within the area of parental education, our
centre is keen to help. One of such program inculcates in parents
high Self-Esteem. This could help to improve both personal life
of the parent personality and family life.
Parent
Support Group
Parental Education will only be beneficial to a certain extent
if there is no "follow up". Therefore, having a parent
support group enables our centre to delve into the subject matter
with greater depth. It also provides a means of feedback for the
centre to understand the children and family better. With regular
meetings, parents will be able to foster strong bonding among
one another as they share their thoughts and feelings regarding
parenting and raising children.
