1. School Attendance & Punctuality
1.1 Attendance is compulsory. Students must observe punctuality when attending class.
1.2 To avoid disruption to Pujas, late comers will be seated at the back of the Hall.
1.3 Parents/guardians are to inform KMS Dharma School of their child’s absence formally.
1.4 If a student is absent without reason for more than 3 times, his/her parents/guardians will be informed. The School reserves the right to suspend/terminate your enrolment.
Inform us of your absence
Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you will be/are absent from School. You may also submit the Notification of Absence Form or a parent’s letter to your class teacher to inform reason for absence. Failure to do so will be considered ‘Absent Without Reason’. Please do not call to inform us of your absence.
Please download the Notification of Absence Form OR collect it from your class teacher.
2. Serious Offences
The School takes a serious view on the following:
2.1 Acts of cheating, bullying, fighting, dishonesty, indecency, hooliganism, theft, vandalism and possession of undesirable materials.
2.2 Smoking, consumption of alcohol, drug abuse and glue-sniffing.
2.3 Arrogance, offensive language, vulgarities and rudeness shown through words, gestures or actions.
3.1 Students are required to be properly attired in the KMS Dharma School T-shirt and plain loose long pants (black, white, dark blue or dark brown) when attending lessons.
3.2 Footwear are to be placed in a neat and orderly manner at the designated area or on the shoe racks.
4. Disciplinary Actions
4.1 The school rules and regulations are in place to ensure that students learn, practice, realise, and share in a safe, happy, and caring environment. It is the student’s responsibility and obligation to observe them.
4.2 The School reserves the right to take disciplinary actions as it deems fit.
5. Monastery Observations
5.1 Students are reminded to be mindful of their behaviour. Do not shout or create disturbance to others.
5.2 Do not to run around the monastery compound.
5.3 Speak courteously and pleasantly at all times.
5.4 As a form of respect, students are required to place their palms together, bow and greet 阿弥陀佛 (Amituofo) when they see Venerables (Monks and Nuns), principal, and teachers at all times.
5.5 The use of mobile phones and electronic game devices are strictly prohibited in the prayer hall and classrooms during school hours.
6.1 Puja is compulsory. Students are required to bring their chanting book and be seated 5 minutes before the start of School in Hall of No Form for Puja.
6.2 Students are required to chant aloud 南无本师释迦牟尼佛 (Namo Shakyamuni Buddha) for 5 minutes before the actual Puja commences.
6.3 Do chant and meditate diligently.
6.4 During puja, students are required to sit properly with back straighten and in a cross-legged position.
7. Prayer Hall
7.1 Show respect to the Buddha. Upon entering the Shrine Hall, prostrate 3 times to the Buddha statue and walk mindfully to your seat. Do not step on the cushions.
7.2 Maintain Noble Silence.
7.3 Do not put any personal belongings on top of the donation box.
7.4 Do not eat or drink in the hall.
7.5 When leaving the Shrine Hall, chant 南无本师释迦牟尼佛 (Namo Shakyamuni Buddha) sincerely and move as a class in an orderly manner back to your classrooms.
8.1 As a form of respect, students are required to place their palms together, bow and greet 阿弥陀佛 (Amituofo) Principal/Teacher YYY, good morning/afternoon” when they see the principal and teachers.
8.2 Students are to raise their hand and wait for the teacher’s acknowledgement before speaking or asking questions.
8.3 Students are to conduct themselves with integrity and honesty, be considerate, care for the community, and offer their service to teachers and peers.
8.4 Look after monastery properties with loving care. Do not step on tables or shift them away without permission.
9. Food Contemplation at VHCMH Level 3 (for KMS Teens & Youths)
9.1 Students are required to bring their own cutleries for their meal as the School will not be providing disposable cutleries.
9.2 Students are to be seated in an orderly manner in the dining area. Maintain silence while waiting for the packed lunch to be served.
9.3. Before partaking the meal, set your motivation as such: This meal is medicine to sustain my healthy life. For the sake of listening and practising the Dharma till Enlightenment, we receive this food.
9.4 While enjoying the meal with mindfulness, reflect where the food originates and the amount of work that is necessary to grow, transport, prepare, and cook the food in order to serve us. Cultivate a heart of gratitude, compassion, equanimity and responsibility.
9.5 Maintain silence while eating, sit upright and do not waste food.
9.6 Maintain the cleanliness of the place after meal. Clear rubbish into trash bags and return plastic plates and rubber bands for reuse.
9.7 Leave the dining area only when the class is dismissed by the teacher-in-charge.
